Books of Destruction

I know that there are many good books in the world and many books that are dangerous and  destructive.
We must learn to know and recognize those books as what they are.
It may be difficult to do that, but when and if you do learn that you can use that knowledge for a lot of good purposes in your life.
I sometimes use the things that my Mom tells me to plan for my married life.
I think that if you know the good from the evil, you have the secret to the entire universe.
YOU HAVE AMAZING POWER!!!.
But the hard part is to know how to use it for a good cause, and that is why it is so easy to forget what is good and what is evil in the world that it eventually will overtake you and you will sort of, uh, fall.
But you have a choice to choose and that is called agency.
Where I live, us kids get taught that at a very young age and we have been taught to use it for a good purpose.
Personally, I think that kids should be treated with respect.
Kids know a lot more than grownups think we know and I mean that about some kids.
Parents should teach their children what they think they should know and I think that they would be surprised what we can do with that knowledge.
But it depends on how you teach your children those things.
I think that you should give your child a chance to choose for himself.
If you think about it, us kids are sort of a test for grownups.
Here is how it works.
The parents teach their kid, the kid chooses, the kid gets the consequences, and if the choice is good the parents know that they taught the right thing.
But is doesn't work on every kid in the world because we are all different and sometimes the parent needs to figure out what they need to learn.
It all works if you really think about it.
Most people don't though.
It's sad.

The Prologue

I decided to write about Chess pieces because absolutely no one ever writes a story about chess, until now.
This book is called Chess Mate.
Hope you enjoy!

Prologue.
Chester was a rook.
He was about two inches tall and he was in the blacks clan.
The blacks clan was a large group of chess people who wore a whole ton of black and who were mortal enemies to the white clan.
Now this particular chess set was not like any of the regular chess sets that you find in regular stores or homes.
This chess set was made out of people who wore armor to make them look like ordinary chess pieces that you or any other person would see.
And they lived under the floor of a certain toy store, managed by an old man by the name of Jeffrey Stowal.
The chess set was a little bit magical and they took threats very seriously.
One day, Chester was going for a walk under the floor, taking care not to bump into any mice.
Mice were very dangerous to the chess set because they could eat a whole piece in one gulp.
As Chester was walking, He heard a beautiful voice singing.
He tried to get closer to the gorgeous voice and carefully followed it around a corner and saw the most angelic creature he had ever imagined.
It was a rook like him, but this one was so beautiful he almost didn't notice her clothes.
They were white.

SO! how is that for a beginning? eh?.
Well, I like it anyway.
And I guess that's all that matters.

My Opinion

By Aartje Smith age 12

I started a new book yesterday.
I am almost done with it, and it is the same size as the one I just barely finished.
I am still reading a cat book, but this one is the fourth one in the first series.
Yes I know, I am very very fast,  but that is not my fault. Well... Maybe it is, BUT! I know a very important secret about reading a book and to not to need glasses.
Yep!, I don't wear glasses, its amazing I know, but the secret to not get glasses is that every time that you are done with a chapter or so, you practice looking at things far away and things that are close to you, over an over again, This way, you don't get out of practice of seeing things nicely that are far away and you don't have to squint to see words on the pages of the book you happen to be reading.
I think that this can work if you already have glasses but I am not sure.
My mom taught me and my siblings that.
And that shows you what you can learn from your mother at anytime and anywhere.
Just like in a book.
To me, Fairy tales are irritating.
Unless they have a really cool knight in shining armor, or a really cool dragon.
Do you find that odd for a girl who is almost a teenager to prefer dragons and swords and battles over dresses and princesses and love interests?.
I know I do, and I am the girl!.

Feelings

By Aartje Smith age 12.

Being in a library, surrounded with books gives me an odd feeling.
It makes me feel like I have all the secrets and important papers in the whole world and that is almost true.
The biggest library I have been in is three stories tall and it has an elevator  and a ton of books.
According to my Mom I have to go to the library at least five times a month because I read so fast and I believe her because the book I was reading yesterday, well, I was less then halfway done with it and it was at least one inch thick and now I am done with it and I am needing to go to the library, desperately.
I wish I could find someone like that who is my age that I could have an intelligent conversation with when we felt like it. Just sitting in the library whispering quietly.
That is one thing that I really like about library's.
They are so quiet and peaceful and when I enter the library, the silence washes over me like a soft blanket and I feel like curling up in a nice warm corner with my favorite books and just reading all day long.
In our town library, in Wendell, the librarians know me and when they see me come in they say "Hi there!" and I guess they know its me every time because when I go to library's I always wear a hat.
Not a ball cap or anything like that, just a really nice hat, like a fedora or a really puffy Russian hat or a weird hat, and when I come in they say  "Oh, what a really nice hat" or " Wow, where do you get all your hats".
They are really nice people and I like them.
In Wendell, we have a really small library and the librarians are really nice.
But in Twin Falls, the HUGE! library, the librarians make me feel small and they seem to look down at me from their high desk and glare at me with their creepy glasses as if I did something wrong and I feel so nervous in their presence that I almost feel like disappearing into thin air.
Those are the different feelings I get in BIG library's and Small library's.
They are pretty much the opposite of each other.
And that is how some of us are.
If we take the time and observe people closer, we will see great knowledge.
